Etsaut - The village where we are based

Etsaut is a sleepy village, situated on the East bank of the Aspe River.  It has 78 full-time residents. Its position is unique inasmuch as it is on the crossing point of two major walking routes: the ancient pilgrimage route known as the Camino de Santiago de Compostela (which follows the valley from North to South), and the GR10 (which stretches from West to East, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean coasts). Consequently, in the summer months, it is an important stopping point for both for pilgrims and for hikers and climbers. In the main village square, there is a café-bar, which is open every day from 7.30am, which also has a small grocery shop attached to it. On the other side of the river, about 10 minutes walk from Etsaut, is the medieval village of Borce, which also has similar facilities. In both villages, there is a variety of accommodation available.

Accommodation

There are some single, double and triple rooms in Paul’s guest-house, La Maison d’en Bas in which we are able to sleep up to 7 guests.  About 30 metres behind Paul’s house there is a Gite called “La Garbure” which also has a number of rooms of varying sizes.

If you want a single room, or are coming with a partner and want a double room, please let us know as early as possible as there is limited availability. For a single room we charge a surcharge of €14 per day. There is no surcharge for a double room. Please contact us for details.

Luckily, as far as we can ascertain, there don’t appear to be any mosquitoes in this part of the village!
